Mrs. Clark (2nd)

Welcome to Second Grade!

I am Mrs. Clark and am so excited to be a part of the St. Aloysius team!  I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, PreK-6 with a concentration in Math from SUNY Fredonia.  I also have a Master's degree in Special Education from St. Bonaventure University.  My teaching experience includes Kindergarten through Second Grade at Hamburg Central Schools and Universal PreK (through Early Bird Childcare Center) for nearby Springville School District.  When I am not at work, you will find me teaching the children and youth at the local church which my husband pastors.  My family and I love to take our dogs for walks, play games, travel, and cook together.

What is my Second Grade Classroom like?

Our classroom is an environment where every student is accepted, encouraged and challenged.  I am very careful to foster an environment where expectations, routine, and structure are consistent.  My instructional techniques are deliberately varied to actively engage a variety of learning styles everyday.

Daily Literacy Centers provide opportunities for students to grow in their ability to learn, practice, and improve their independence, time-management, and collaborative working skills.  While I am providing differentiated instruction in guided groups, students are practicing pre-taught literacy skills using engaging hands-on activities that often integrate technology.

Math in our classroom is an opportunity to learn/practice skills with a daily hands-on activity and to cooperatively work with a partner.

We explore many interesting Science and Social Studies topics in Second Grade, with most integrating right into our ELA time!

Some extra experiences that make Second Grade an exceptional learning environment include:

  • Weekly Writer's Workshop
  • Agriculture in the Classroom (biweekly push-in program from the Cornell Cooperative Extension)
  • Lots of learning through movement
